Myrtle Beach, SC - Mooresville, North Carolina's Chuck Gafrarar and
the Highlands Motorports (Bristol TN) team headed to the Piggly Wiggly
150 Saturday for the NASCAR Touring Goody Dash Series event. The Myrtle
Beach Speedway event started with Gafrarar qualifying Team Highlands
#52 Pontiac in 17th position. Within an hour from the race start, a
shake up in the NASCAR Tech had three front row qualifiers shuffle
their starting positions to the back of the pack because of qualifying
infractions. Gafrarar ended up starting in 14th spot.
At the race start Gafrarar was on the move into 11th spot. It was a
night of several track incidents for other drivers and cautions. Gafrarar,
kept a good pace, avoiding several cautions. He brought the 52 into
a position racing along side of Shane Hmiel. As Gafrarars tire temp
increased and the handle went away he fought to maintain position.
A quick stop and go pit for fuel, followed with another pit for chassis
adjustment on lap 57 got Gafrarar back on the track to work forward.
With the last 20 laps on the board, Gafrarar battled the 93 car of
Randy Humphrey back and forth for 11th spot. Heading to the checkered,
Gafrarar was on bumper of the 93 but not enough edge to take over 11th.
The Highlands Team hit the finish line with a 12th place finish! Gafrarar
stated,
" we were digging
tonight and I was happy to bring
the 52 home in 12th, I really wanted
a better finish for the team tonight." "Our
crew did a great job but we will
keep digging for that win and we
look forward to Bristol."
There are three races remaining in the series with Gafrarar presently
in 8th place in the points and maintaining his first place position
in the Rookie of the Year points challenge!
The race weekend kept the Highlands Team busy with the Friday morning
Fishing Tournament, sponsored by WIX Filters. Highlands Motorsports
own Kevin Lowe brought home the First place trophy and a years supply
of WIX Filters for his team! Gafrarar stated "it was great of
WIX Filters to sponsor the Fishing Tournament, we appreciate having
a change of pace to relax and kick back before race day." Later
that evening the Highlands Team hit the NASCAR Café for the
Drivers Autograph session.
Team Highlands heads to Bristol TN for the next Goody's Dash event
August 21st.
