Mooresville, NC- Chuck Gafrarar and the Highlands Motorsports Team
headed to Who’s Your Daddy - Big Daddy’s South Boston Speedway,
South Boston Va Saturday, Aug. 3rd for the NASCAR Goody’s Dash
150 lap event.
Gafrarar qualified the #52 in 22nd spot setting the race pace to the
front as a challenging one! At the drop of the green flag, Gafrarar
set his pace forward, by lap six the first caution lap was out with
the 52 in 18th spot. On the re-start Gafrarar moved up another four
positions, but the caution came out on lap fifteen for a different
incident. Under yellow, Gafrarar was tagged from behind and spun around.
This would place Chuck at the rear of the field. With the re-start
the Highlands Icehouse 52 was in 21st position. By lap 38 another caution
was thrown and pit stops began. A stop and go for fuel and back to
the track, Gafrarar was moving forward into 14th position. A fourth
caution and re-start had Gafrarar and the 52 into 11th spot. By lap
63 Gafrarar was in 10th place picking up positions to lap 84 when the
52 moved into 8th spot!
With lap 90 on the board, Gafrarar’s #52 Pontiac Sunfire dove
into turn one when something locked up in the rear of the car, Gafrarar
went high and dashed into the pits. A broken caliper was the problem
for the 52 car. Twelve laps down Gafrarar headed back on the track
to gain whatever positions he could and bring the Highlands Motorsports
over the finish line as best as possible. He continued to run with
the pack bringing the #52 over the finish line in 17th spot.
Gafrarar and the Highlands Team turned the race day problems into a
points saving finish for the Highlands/Icehouse #52 as they maintained
a seventh place finish in the points series and held onto the Rookie
of the Year lead in the Points Challenge! Gafrarar stated
“our
team did a great job dealing with the caliper problem, and we were
able to get back on the track and work forward.” Things
happen – that’s racing.
“We are ready
for Myrtle Beach and thank all our fans for their continued support,
positive emails and our website chatter.”
The next Highlands
Motorsports team race will be Saturday,
August 10th at Myrtle Beach Speedway,
