same!] |

Rockingham, NC - People often wonder what a racer does on off time
in the race season. If you ask Chuck Gafrarar, Mooresville NC, he will
tell you one word - race! That's exactly what he did a mere week after
he picked up the NASCAR Goody's Dash Rookie of the Year title last
Saturday in Greensboro NC.
On Friday, November 28th Gafrarar dusted off his Kart and headed to
the Rock for the World Karting Associations (WKA) Horstman Gold Cup
Series at the North Carolina Speedway, Rockingham, NC. Gafrarar took
the Fast Time in qualifying for the GT Machine Grand Nationals! He
is known on the Pro Kart circuits over the years as the hard chargin'
Factory Driver for the Dunlop Tire Corporation. On Saturday, Gafrarar
took the bull by the horns and picked up another Grand National Champion
title in the Pennink Arrimour Gold Briggs Controlled Heavy division!
Gafrarar stated
"it was 10 years ago Saturday, when
I won my last WKA Grand National." Gafrarar stated
"it's
unreal that 10 years ago today I win another."
Gafrarar is well known on the Pro Kart circuit, after racing the series
for several years. Over the past few years Chuck raced the events off
and on as his schedule permits. He stated
"I enjoy
my time in a kart, it's a great learning tool for moving on in racing.
I started racing karts when I was nine years old and credit it for
helping me be where I am today." Gafrarar owns and
operates Chuck Gafrarar Raceworks INC with his partner Tim Wallace,
where they fabricate Winston Cup, Busch, ARCA and Hooters Cup cars
for several clients. With my hectic work and race schedule over the
years Gafrarar stated
"I try run a few kart events
during off time and stay in touch with the series."
When asked about his first kart race Gafrarar commented
"it
was at a little dirt track in Pennsylvania, and I had the kart I received
as a Christmas gift." Back then he said
"we
didn't know you needed gloves to run, a friend who came along with
us went down the road to a True Value store and bought me a pair of
leather work gloves. He laughs, the only size they had they were men's
large! Somehow I wrapped my fingers around the steering wheel and raced
my heart out. He laughed, at remembering that at season ending I won
the Rookie of the Year title at that little track. It was a blast." Over
the years he became the guy to beat on the kart circuits! Winning over
seven National, Regional and Indoor World Champion titles and a two
time "Duffy" Grand National International Kart Federation
(IKF) champion!
Gafrarar said
"I would like to thank: Icehouse, Dunlop,
Checker Flag Fuel, Johnny Bartlet, Jackie Widenhouse, Glenn & Travis
Firing and Bonsignore Kart Shop. With their help it made this win possible.
It was great to be out there enjoy the weekend with many friends from
the years in karting. To win another Grand National title 10 years
after the last one makes this win more special."
Gafrarar heads to the track again late January, for the practice rounds
in Daytona with the Icehouse/Highlands Goody's Dash car. "I hope
to have the opportunity to run a few BUSCH events and work towards
moving up."
That's it for now... see you at the track!
