Kugler Award) |

MOORESVILLE NC - January 31, 2003 In January,
Chuck Gafrarar claimed the 2002 NASCAR Goody's
Dash Rookie of the Year title. The following
week, he won a WKA Grand National Win! On Saturday,
January, 25th at the WKA Breakfast of Champions
in Hickory NC, Gafrarar was the recipient of
the prestigious George Kugler Sportsmanship
Award. Driver of the #52 Highlands Motorsports/Icehouse
Toyota took the podium to thank the World Karting
Association and comment on his years in the
Karting world. Gafrarar stated
"this
award means so much to me...I have had great
times racing karts over the years. I was not
able to race all the series the past few years
due to my job and other racing. However, when
my schedule permits - I always head for the
karts. I can't stress the importance of karting
in the racing world. It's a great learning
tool for all of you who want to become involved
in other motorsports. Karting will always have
a special place with me and I thank you all
for this honor."
During the awards ceremony, Gafrarar also claimed
2nd place in the Horstman Gold Cup series in
the Briggs Controlled Heavy division! Gafrarar
stated
"I have been involved
in karting since I was 9 years old and I can't
stress enough on what a great family oriented
sport this is for all ages. My parents bought
my first kart and three months later I was
racing it on a small dirt track in Pennsylvania.
Back then I thought it was too cool. Over the
years I know it was a great chance for me to
make friends and learn karting, but to have
the opportunity to still race the circuits
and win is awesome." I look
forward to running the series again in 2003.
In February, Gafrarar heads to Daytona to start
his first full season as a member of the Toyota
NASCAR Goody's Dash Team. Gafrarar stated "look
for special announcements and new things with
our team in Daytona."
